New gadget… (essential)

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

I’ve replaced my Bluetooth GPS module (which was stolen :( ) with a new Bluetooth GPS Logger from Holux (M-241) – handy single AA powered with a little LCD display.

It connects fine to my Nokia 6120C and works with TomTom / Google Maps.

The biggest down side is transfering the file from it, you have to use the supplied app as it does not show up as USB Mass storage device (its a 38400 baud serial port on usb).  But as it will store 130000 points between download that should only be once a trip, so not a big issue. It also works via bluetooth so you don’t have to use a cable if your laptop is bluetooth enabled.

Also it states the device is not water resistant, which seems an odd choice for something you would expect to hang from a rucksack (in fact that is how the packaging show it). Well there is no cover for the USB / ON-OFF switch but the rest of the device seems like it would cope with some light rain, proberbly best not to check it out, so I will keep it in a pocket in my rucksack.

It will get a real test next week, when we take the Motorcycle & Camera to Wales…

Photowalks

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

Last Saturday, spent the day with several other like minded people. Walking around Cambridge taking pictures. It was part of the Scott Kelby Worldwide photowalk.

Photos are on my Flickr Site and my Smugmug.

On the Sunday I took a walk around Bury St. Edmunds and took a few shots as well.

Bit Slow on the updates…

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

Well another update, and again I am back from China… This time it was a weekend in Hong Kong, then to Shenzhen by train / cab and plane to Qingdao.

After a meeting in Qingdao, it was off to the airport again, this time off to Shanghai.

Next day a meeting in Suzhou (2.5hrs by car) and back to Shanghai, spent the last 2 days in the office, before flying home on the Saturday morning…

Took some more pictures, my old spare D70 and 18-200VR are getting around a bit…

My first book

Monday, April 21st, 2008

I used some of the photos taken in Hong Kong in a sample book – published via blurb – it looks nice, the quality is good and I will be using them again. (here is a link to the book)

It is a pity that I did not get my wife to spell check it before I pressed the print button, oh well it would not be a book by me if the spellings and grammar where all correct…
